Flickr on my Mobile

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

I've already bored everyone at work about being able to access Flickr on the crappy browser on my cell phone but here it is again. You can access Flickr on your cell phone. The tip is mentioned on their FAQ. The URL is http://flickr.com/mob/. Just another cool feature on Flickr which I got to use during dinner with the in-laws. As they rambled on I could just zone out looking at my pics on my phone. Sweet.

More Cool Phone Stuff

Saturday, February 19th, 2005

Once again Russell Beattie has some great examples of why cell phones are going to be the next kick ass platform. He talks about some of the traffic cam apps made accessible to cell phones. Beattie always has something cool to report / talk about. If you don't read his blog, I highly recommend it.

I can't wait for some of that high speed access love for cell phone users in the states.

Coupon Code / Deals Site (with RSS)

Friday, February 18th, 2005

I stumbled on some deal site yesterday that looked like it would actually provide information about online deals that I would be interested in. I decided to add their feed to bloglines. But, wait! What feed? This is a site run by cave men. I guess they have the foolish idea that I'm going to hit refresh on their main page several times a day. Yeah, right.

So I found dealnews today which does have a feed (and I am once again happy, back in the 21st century).

Google Hacking Database

Friday, February 18th, 2005

Perhaps the coolest thing I've found recently is the Google Hacking Database. It is full of very interesting searches you can do using Google to find things like unsecured webcams, network CD/DVD drives, unsecured admin consoles for online shopping sites, etc.

I, of course, have no intention of using/misusing any of this information. It is, however, very interesting to see both the ramifications of not changing default settings on devices connected to the internet and also to see the far reaching power of Google. Part of the internet being the "web" is that resources/files that people never imagined being available online are somehow, very indirectly, connected to (and visible to) the rest of the world. It's the internet age equivalent of running around naked with your drapes open.

My Mostly Ideal mp3 Player

Friday, February 18th, 2005

I've been meaning to get a portable mp3 player so I can listen to some decent music / podcasts in the office or on the medium length commute to work every day. I know quite a few people that are iPod zealots. It definitely seems like a kick ass product, but it doesn't have everything I want.

I'd like to have an FM radio receiver (with presets and recording from the radio), voice recording via an built in microphone or a line in, be treated as a USB mass storage device so I don't have to install drivers under most OSes (with USB 2.0 support), have a built in USB connector (retractable) so I don't need to haul cables around, expandable memory via some sort of standard flash component (i.e. MMC/SD), some sort of display so I can see what I'm playing (sorry, no iPod Shuffle), and a replaceable battery (AA or AAA).

It is surprisingly hard to find this wish list of features. I hunted around forever until I finally stumbled upon the Wigo RM-100 This little thing seems to have everything I want. The downside is that I can find zero reviews on the product and Wigo doesn't seem to sell much in the United States. I found someone from Alabama listing the 512MB model for $149.95 and the 256MB for $114.95 on eBay. Besides being leery of buying a product I can't find reviews for from a company I've never heard of I'm also not too hot on the idea of getting it from someone off of eBay. I'd like a bigger, more accountable seller for something like this.

Anyway, maybe I'll get lucky and someone will put out an mp3 player with my full wish list of features. Until then I'll just salivate over this picture:

Wikipedia on a crappy phone

Friday, February 18th, 2005

Russell Beattie posted that a mobile phone version of Wikipedia has been made available at maxpedia.org. Muy sexy for those of us that have crappy phones that don't have "real" web browsers. Ultimately, I guess things like this will go away / become unnecessary as more powerful mobile devices with high speed access become available.

Flickr, Baby!!

Sunday, January 16th, 2005

Cote' had been mentioning Flickr for quite some time. I finally got around to looking at it, and I like it very much. The wife and I have a shitload of pics from every vacation, holiday, etc. After messing with it for a day or so, I upgraded to the pay account. After the wife played with it for a bit, she went absolutely crazy going through old photos and uploading everything. This works out well for me, since I get all of the benefit of getting my choice pics online without actually having to do any work. You can drink from the Robert & Lisa photo firehose courtesy of my Flickr account.

Leftovers

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

Here's some leftover pictures from the last couple of Halloween's. These are pumpkins that my wife and I carved mostly based on patterns we found for free on the internet (when she wasn't surfing for porn). These are some of the early ones. Mostly straight pumpkin cutting. Cat and house were done by the wife, the other is mine.

Here are a couple of our sophomore efforts. Again, still typical pumpkin sawing scene/action. Yoda was done by the wife, the other two are me. The Indiana Jones look-a-like is on a fake pumpkin. Apparently we bought a real camera between these and the first group.

These are the first attempts at the cutting / shaving techniques. If I remember correctly, the Stitch is the very first attempt. It was done by my wife. I did the Batman.

Nemo and Snow White are the wife's, the other two are mine. The 626 Stitch was a pattern we made ourselves in photoshop from an image I found on the web.

Name Statistics

Thursday, April 22nd, 2004

While poking around on other blogs, I found one that put up some stats from a name statistics site. A nice way to kill a couple of seconds when you're not too busy googlewhacking.
